Welcome to the Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV)
information page for landlords

On any given night, there are over 3,000 homeless individuals in Austin. To help address the need, HACA can issue Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHV) to families or individuals with an urgent need to find a home. The EHV is paid to landlords to cover rent, but unfortunately, there just aren’t enough landlords willing to accept the people in the EHV Program. But by partnering with HACA, landlords can end homelessness in the Austin community, and as an extra incentive, earn a $1,000 bonus.

How landlords in austin can help families find a home
and earn a $1,000 bonus

The Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program is similar to the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program (formerly known as Section 8).

  • What makes the EHV Program different:
  •
  • The EHV program provides $1000 at lease-up and $1000 at the first lease renewal.
  •
  • The EHV program includes a “risk mitigation funds” to help cover damages not covered by the security deposit.
  •
  • HACA is offering a $1000 LEASE incentive. One per client, for leases effective November 12, 2021 and after.
  •

Thank you for your continued support to help end homelessness in Austin!

On February 10, 2022, HACA Hosted a live webinar for Austin area landlords to share the exciting news and changes being made to the EHV Program. If you were unable to attend the live webinar, you can watch a recording of it here, which includes a presentation by Lisa Garcia, Vice President of Assisted Housing, as well as an informative question and answer session with landlords at the end of the video.

We also encourage interested landlords to view this brief presentation (in English or Spanish) that highlights everything landlords need to know to get started in the EHV program:
