The Housing Authority of the City of Austin's nonprofit subsidiary, the Southwest
Housing Compliance Corporation, serves on the U.S. Housing and Urban Development
Department's behalf as contract administrator for housing units receiving project-based
Section 8 housing assistance in the states of Texas and Arkansas.
In response to the growing needs of Austin residents and the subsequent decline
of federal funding to support community development programs, SHCC contributes
its revenue to support HACA's goal to acquire and make affordable housing available
to residents of Austin. Additionally, SHCC funds support HACA's two primary
community development initiatives: drop-out prevention and workforce development.
With SHCC revenue, 16 houses have been purchased, renovated and rented to qualified
low-income families, fulfilling the goal to provide affordable housing in the
Austin area. To promote and support higher education among HACA residents,
SHCC awards Public Housing / Housing Choice/Section 8 participants
with
educational scholarships each year.
"We
