HACA has money for your education!
The cost of furthering your education can seem overwhelming. But paying to attend college or a trade school is not as difficult as you may think! There are many, many resources available. The key is to PLAN AHEAD.

Scholarships exclusively for residents of public housing and Section 8/Housing Choice (with approximate 2008 application deadlines):

**Stephen J. Bollinger Memorial Scholarship - Feb. 1, 2008
**Texas NAHRO - February 22, 2008
HACA Resident Scholarship -March 14, 2008
Southwest NAHRO - April 4, 2008
**Housing Authority Insurance Group- April 18, 2008

**The date and submission address on these applications are not applicable because these applications require HACA certification to be valid. Please submit your application directly to HACA by the deadline shown next to the application link.

The HACA Resident Scholarship
The Housing Authority of the City of Austin Board of Commissioners established the HACA Resident Scholarship in 2001 for the benefit of all HACA Public Housing Residents and Housing Choice (Section 8) participants who are planning to attend an institution of higher education. The scholarship serves as a vehicle of hope to those individuals who have a desire to further their education but lack the adequate financial means to accomplish this goal. The scholarship is designed to inspire these individuals to work toward becoming independent and economically self-sufficient members of the community. The scholarship is funded by the Southwest Housing Compliance Corporation, a HACA subsidiary. The scholarships are available on a competitive basis, and the award amount varies from year to year, depending on the availability of funds.

Eligibility
Applicants for HACA scholarships must:

1. Be a HACA public housing resident or Housing Choice (Section 8) participant.
2. Be a graduating high school senior or already have a high school diploma/GED.
3. Be currently attending or plan to attend a college, university, technical school or other post-secondary school.
Note: If you are currently attending or attended a post-secondary school previously, you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater (transfer credits are not considered in this GPA).
Note: Individuals who qualify can apply for both the HACA resident and HACA family scholarships (available for children of employees only) but will only be awarded one scholarship if selected.
