Six-Star Resident Program
The Six Star Resident program offers affordable housing opportunities to public housing residents while they work to overcome the barriers to becoming independent.
The Six-Star Resident Program's participants have a choice to reside at one of Austin Affordable Housing Corporation's Apartment Communities at a reduced rental rate. The program must be completed within three years and an escrow account is established to provide financial assistance upon completion of the program.
Guidelines for the program:
- Pay rent on time
- Maintain appearance and upkeep of your apartment
- Be drug-free and free from the dependence of alcohol
- Ensure children attend school
- Maintain full-time employment
- Become a registered voter
Interested participants will be subject to a credit and rental history check, must pass a criminal background check and must not have any outstanding balances owed to HACA. Additionally, participants must have lived in public housing for a minimum of one year and be in good standing. After becoming a Six Star Resident, all public housing assistance is discontinued.
