HACA GRANTED $3.1 MILLION FOR 2005 CAPITAL FUND PROGRAM

WHAT: The Housing Authority of the City of Austin exists to serve its residents. To ensure it continues to provide quality affordable housing opportunities for families of low income, HACA has been granted $3,068,626 for its Capital Fund Program.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Capital Fund is intended for physical and management improvements, emergency repairs, regulatory compliance, improvements outside the scope of routine maintenance as well as other special projects.

The 2005 plan includes playground and parking improvement, modernization and renovation of several of the developments, ADA compliance efforts, security enhancement and management improvements.

Part of the grant includes two bonuses HACA received for ranking as a high performer on its Public Housing Assessment System inspection and for having obligated and expended previous grants appropriately. Obligation of the 2005 funds will begin Sept. 7.

WHAT ELSE: The Housing Authority of the City of Austin is a public agency whose business is to ensure that safe, quality affordable housing opportunities exist for families of low income; break the poverty cycle by serving as a catalyst for our residents to become economically self-sufficient; create meaningful partnerships to maximize available community resources for our residents; and efficiently and effectively meet federal, state and local mandates.
