HACA BOARD MEMBER WINS COMMISSIONER’S SERVICE
AWARD
Commissioner wins award out of 1,200 other housing authorities in the region
WHAT: Carl S. Richie II, board member of the
Housing Authority of the City of Austin, was recently awarded the Commissioner’s
Service Award by the Southwest Regional Council of the National Association
of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. He has served as commissioner of the
housing authority since 1997.
“Richie is a dedicated commissioner who has provided exceptional leadership,” James
Hargrove, president and CEO of HACA, said. “It is through his work with
the other commissioners that HACA is viewed not only as a high performing organization
but also as leaders within the housing industry.”
Richie won the award out of approximately 1,200 other housing authorities
in the region, which includes Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas,
Oklahoma and New Mexico. In 2003, Richie received a similar state award when
he was named Commissioner of the Year by the Texas chapter of NAHRO.
A partner with the law offices of Gardere Wynne Sewell, Richie’s practice
is concentrated in Legislative and Regulatory Affairs, which includes legislative
representation, administrative law and representation of government entities.
Since being appointed as commissioner in 1997, he has been successful in applying
his extensive business experience for the betterment of HACA’s operations
and to assist the residents living within HACA communities.
WHAT ELSE: The Housing Authority of the City of Austin is a public agency
whose business is to ensure that safe, quality affordable housing opportunities
exist
for
families of low income; break the poverty cycle by serving as a catalyst for
our residents to become economically self-sufficient; create meaningful partnerships
to maximize available community resources for our residents; and efficiently
