Senior Services
The Housing Authority of the City of Austin has four sites dedicated
to seniors and disabled persons. These sites include North Loop Apartments,
Gaston Place, Lakeside Apartments and Salina Apartments. In addition,
every HACA site includes senior citizens. Currently, 3,000 senior
or disabled residents live throughout HACA properties.
Residents can attend health and safety programs, activities and
classes geared toward the enrichment of their lives. One of HACA’s
most popular senior activities is Mayfest, an annual festival where
businesses and organizations that cater to the elderly are invited
to set up booths. The event is a fun mix of food, entertainment and
information.
Health and Safety fairs are also sponsored by HACA. While these
fairs are set up at all HACA sites, they are specially designed to
help the elderly and disabled. Similar to Senior Mayfest, the events
bring together residents with community resources related to health
and safety.
Particular services are available around Austin that work primarily
with the elderly population. The Parks and Recreation Department
Senior Support Services offers a senior nutrition program including
on-site daily lunches. Capital Metro provides free weekly bus runs
from senior sites to local area grocery stores. For more information
