New Landlord Seminars
Every month the Housing Authority of the City of Austin holds seminars for landlords new to the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program. The purpose of this seminar is to give potential landlords an overview of the program. The seminar will take landlords through the steps that include: listing your property, determining a rent amount, selecting a tenant, inspection of the unit and payment by the housing authority. The seminars will be held at the housing authority at 1124 IH-35 South at 1:30 p.m. and will last until 2:30 p.m. The dates for the 2008 seminars are February 13, March 12, April 16, May 14, June 18, July 16, August 13, September 17, October 8, November 12, and December 17 or call to schedule an appointment. We can also schedule on-site visits/meetings with apartment communities, leasing agencies and realty offices. Current Tenant Orientations
All families who decide to move under the Housing Choice Voucher Program must attend a moving orientation. At the orientation they receive their voucher and moving paperwork, but they will not be allowed to move until their current lease expires (approximately two months). The orientations will be held at 1124 IH-35 South on February 21, March 27, April 24, May 29, June 26, July 31, August 28, September 25, and October 30, 2008. There will be four orientation times on each of those days: 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.. If you plan to attend and advertise your availabilities, you are encouraged to bring flyers, goodies or anything else that would help promote your property. New Voucher Orientations
