Applications

Applications are accepted ONLY for current vacancy notices and on the required forms. Resumes will NOT be accepted without a completed application. It is not necessary to submit a separate application for each job posting for which you want to be considered for employment. Vacancy announcements provide the position title, job number, salary information, job description and minimum qualification requirements. The Human Resources Division is responsible for screening each application to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualification requirements.

Interviews

If selected for an interview, you will be contacted by the Hiring Supervisor for the position. Human Resources does not schedule interviews. Once the position is filled all candidates will be notified by mail that a final selection has been made.

What is the best way to submit an application?
For your convenience, you can submit applications by one of four different ways. Please note, your application must be signed to be considered for the position you are applying for.
1) Fax your application to us at 512-477-1272.
2) Mail your application to the Austin Housing Authority, Attn: Human Resources, PO Box 6159, Austin, TX 78762.
3) Bring your application to our central office at 1124 S IH 35, Austin, TX 78704.
4) E-mail your application as an attachment. Please remember, if you e-mail your application, your application will not be considered unless it is signed.

What is your fax number?
The fax number for the Human Resource department is 512-477-1272.

What is the application process?
Once your application is received by Human Resources, it will be screened for minimum requirements, completeness and a signature. If it passes this screen, it will be forwarded to the hiring managers to be considered for an interview. If you are selected for an interview, the hiring manager will contact you to schedule your interview time and location. Once a candidate has been hired, all applicants will be notified by mail that the position is filled. Employment offers are contingent upon satisfactory employment verifications, background check and drug & physical tests.

How will I know that my application was received?
After Human Resources receives your application, a postcard is mailed to the address listed on the application acknowledging receipt of your application.

When will interviews be scheduled?
There is not a defined time period for scheduling interviews. The Hiring Managers will schedule interviews based on the quality of applications received and the amount of time they have to conduct the interviews.

Can I schedule an interview?
No, the Hiring Manager will schedule interviews with qualified applicants as their schedule allows.

Who is the hiring manager and how do we contact them?
Due to the amount of applications received, the names and titles of the Hiring Managers are not disclosed unless you are asked to interview. You may contact Human Resources with any questions or concerns.

What is the status of my application?
Human Resources does not conduct the interview or applicant selection process. We will only have the status of a position once the applicant has been chosen. Once the chosen applicant has been hired, all applicants will be notified by mail that the position is filled. Please note, we only accept applications for advertised position vacancies.

I recently applied for a job there. Do I need to complete another application to apply for a position I am interested in?
We keep applications on file for six months. If the information is still accurate, you may request, in writing, that we re-submit your application for a position in which you are interested. If your application is more than six months old, you will need to submit a new application.

If I am interested in more than one position, do I need to complete an application for each position?
No. If you are interested in applying for more than one position, please list all interested positions on one application. Please be specific about the positions in which you are interested. We will only accept applications for advertised position vacancies.

Are there open positions that are not on your web site?
All positions open for outside applicants are listed on our websites. We have two websites, www.hacanet.org and www.shccnet.org. Please check both web sites periodically for the most current job openings.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Responsible for coordinating efforts to provide low-income housing through the Public Housing program. Performs a variety of tasks involving office management, training, report submission, auditing, and data processing. Specific duties include the following: Conduct training for new staff. Conduct follow-up assessments to new staff during their first year and provide training to other staff as requested. Advise appropriate personnel of concerns and necessary follow-up. Develops, maintains, and updates training material and binders. Coordinates, develops, and facilitates ongoing staff training. Monitors, audits, and reports on Housing Manager’s caseload status. Generates and analyzes re-exam reports and identifies errors. Develop monitoring reports to assure accuracy of all program functions. Perform random audits to ensure quality control. Perform targeted reviews. Creates and provides audit findings reports to appropriate personnel. Submit monthly PIC reports. Monitor and report PIC submission rate to ensure a minimum 97% submissions rate. Monitor fatal errors and tracks corrections of errors. Prepare required narrative and statistical reports for department, agency and commissioners meetings. Compile daily morning reports for both districts on a rotating basis. Pulls database reports daily relating to vacancies, TAR, unit turnaround time, and status of unit assignments. Maintain records and reports. Monitors and reports trends. Compile police officer monthly schedules for the department. Receives, reviews, and submits police officer timesheets for payment. Manage and maintain police officer contracts binder. Serves as Security Administrator and performs Database Maintenance to include maintaining and updating HCD database, assigning, and monitoring security access for all department staff using PIC, EIV, TASS, WASS, and OAG child support portal. Trains staff on EIV Security procedures and ensures staff complies with EIV Security SOP and OAG security procedures. Updates and maintains applicable network folders and files. Receives, reads, and distributes mail to appropriate personnel. Tracks and monitors sensitive deadlines for report submission, responses to Fair Housing inquiries, reasonable accommodation requests, and Legal Aid inquiries. Files and maintains records, develops charts, forms, graphs, computerized presentations, updates database information, and types reports. Serve as liaison between Community Directors, Housing Managers, maintenance personnel, community development staff, Vice Presidents of Housing and Community Development and internal departments and outside public and private organizations. Composes, edits, and proofs all correspondence, reports, forms and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Drafts, types, and proofreads outgoing correspondence and complex documents. Schedules grievance hearings, and sends notices, makes arrangements for meetings on and off site, prepares agenda packets, notices of meetings and contacts participants. Attends meetings, transcribes and distributes minutes of meetings. Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Two year degree in General Business Management or other related discipline from an accredited college or university. Four years experience in administrative area of office management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Considerable knowledge of HUD regulations and Authority policies, procedures and practices pertaining to PHA management, risk management, accounting, and data processing. PHM certification is required within one year of employment. Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, and techniques. Good knowledge of general office procedures and practices, business English and arithmetic. Considerable skills in operating computer equipment, software packages and general office machines. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous relationships with other employees and other business contacts. Ability to communicate in Spanish and English is highly desirable. Bondability. Valid Texas drivers license and eligibility for coverage under PHA fleet auto insurance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is principally sedentary, but may involve some physical exertion, such as kneeling, crouching, or lifting to obtain files and records, and eye strain from working with computers and other office equipment. The work involves normal risks and discomforts associated with an office environment, but is usually in an area that is adequately cooled, heated, lighted, and ventilated.

POSITION: Lead Maintenance

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Responsible for diagnosing and performing repairs within their assigned property which are more technical in nature, requiring highly skilled levels of knowledge. Tasks are performed in several trades or crafts at their assigned development..
Through knowledge of techniques, methods, materials and equipment used in plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs; and in the repair of household appliances and heating systems.

QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or GED. Three years experience in apartment or building maintenance, vocational training and/ or experience in areas of general repairs, carpentry, plumbing, air conditioning and electrical repairs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Use of personally owned hand tools required. Ability to read and write English. Ability to read and understand repair manuals, and instructions/warning on cleaning agents; write service requests, maintenance reports, and inspection reports. Skills and written test will be administered. Valid Texas Driver's License, driving record, and copy of diplomas and/or transcripts required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK CONDITIONS: The employee must operate hand and power tools and equipment. Normal physical activity can be strenuous and may involve prolonged standing, walking, reaching, bending, crouching, stooping, and lying prone. The employee must use arm strength to manipulate hand tools such as saws, sanders and jointers. The employee must occasionally push, pull, and/or lift objects up to and over 25 pounds. The employee works indoors and outdoors and is exposed to weather extremes. The employee may occasionally be subject to electrical shock hazards, dangerous heights, dangerous chemicals, and skin irritants (e.g., cleaning solutions, solvents, insecticides). The employee may be required to use goggles, gloves and other safety equipment. Safety boots required, tennis or athletic shoes are not allowed.
