"I would just like to say thank you. Without your assistance, I would be unable to have a home."
~Ruby, Housing Choice Voucher Program resident

The Housing Authority of the City of Austin owns and operates 1,929 units of conventional public housing in 19 developments throughout Austin. Development sites range from high-rise apartments on Town Lake to small duplexes in residential neighborhoods. HACA also offers single-family homes throughout the city. Residents living in public housing have a wide variety of services available to them. The Housing and Community Development Department includes everything from providing referrals and resources to assisting residents in becoming economically independent. Residents who apply for public housing units are assigned to units as they become available and do not have the option to choose the HACA community in which they live.

HACA also manages the Housing Choice Voucher/Section 8 Program that provides rental vouchers for more than 5,000 units of housing in Austin's private rental market. HACA pays a portion of the rent directly to the landlord. This program allows residents to choose the place in which they want to live. NOTE THAT THE HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM (SECTION 8) WAIT LIST IS CURRENTLY CLOSED AND IS NOT RECEIVING APPLICATIONS FOR THE PROGRAM.

Copies of the plans and supporting information will be available for review and inspection at the HACA Central Office located at 1124 S. IH-35 Austin, TX 78704 or an electronic version of the plans is available online at www.hacanet.org. HACA is committed to compliance with the American Disabilities Act. Reasonable modifications and equal access to communications will be provided upon request. Please call 477-4488 ext. 2112 for assistance.
